My Imu cet exam Rank is 5135 can I get seat in Marine Engineering college

Kushagra Singh 3rd Aug, 2022

Hi,

IMU CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) is conducted by IMU every year for colleges offering UG and PG courses.

The minimum eligibility criteria is to have Physics Chemistry and Mathematics as subject combination in class 12th with minimum average of 60% and English as a compulsory subject. The minimum aggregate marks should be 50%.

The cutoff for the Marine engineering college used to be under 200. As you have 5135, you have very low chance of getting your admission into it.

There are Various Marine courses available as:

  • B.Tech in Marine engineering
  • B.Tech in Naval Architecture and ocean engineering
  • B.Sc. in Marine Science
  • B.Sc. in ship building and repairing

I hope it covers your doubt.

All the best.

Which is better mechanical or marine engineering?

Micky 4th Jul, 2022
Hi,

See, it totally depends on you. If you have a passion for Marine enhineerjng, you can surely go for it.

You can later do a one year course from any institute(The GME course) and explore the Marine field if you want to. The placement is also almost 100% sure in these cases. You can appear for GATE and other PSU exams.

You always have a mechanical degree and it is relatively easier if you want to shift ashore later.A mechanical engineering degree emphasises on the mechanical aspect of engineering which is the most important part when you serve onboard as a Marine engineer. Marine engineering involves the study of various non-important subjects but yes, imphasis is given on the mechanical part from 2nd year onwards. The placement scenario in Marine engineering colleges rightnow is not so good.

I'm available if you need help with this.

Good Luck!!
