Hello there,

The basic difference between an applied subject and a pure subject is that the depth of the study related to the  field of subjects.

General Microbiology deals with the deeper study of a group of microorganisms (fungi, bacteria and viruses) to get a knowledge if their characteristics in precision .

Applied microbiology deals with the study of microorganisms for the sole purpose of benefits to humanity. It is more of applied science involving other field of sciences related to medicines, vaccines, enzymes etc.

Both the subjects have their own role in the educational system and research based work. The choice of subject should be made as per one's interest after learning about the overview of both the subjects.

Thank you.
