If you are a regular student who will need to travel 5-6 days a week for college, then I suggest you take the nearest hostel in Trivandrum because travelling daily through train can be a hassle. You will be wasting 3 hours per day in travelling which you could devote on studying or taking rest. But, if you think you won't be very regular, then there is no problem with train travel.
