All government medical colleges are equally good. It all depends on a student how much efforts he puts in his studies. Anyways, on the basis of cut off marks, popularity and year of establishment, Medical College, Kolkata is considered to be the best government medical college in Kolkata.

There is no such best colleges as there is no systematic ranking done for medical colleges in India. However based on popularity and Counselling results, Kolkata Medical College is regarded as the best in the state followed by NRS.

There may be several reasons. Some of the reasons I am listing here

1. Best in state peer students. The college is the favourite destination for toppers in the state.

2. A stable and well experienced faculty. Being a old college, there are faculties who literally started as a medical student in the same college and stepped up to the level of professor with time. This creates an emotional attachment to the institute making them serve better.

3. Strong alumni. The institute is about 200 years old with alumni spreaded all over world and India , some of them are renowned doctor, authors as well as researchers.
