Hi,

Which examination is tough depends on several factors.
1. Students level of preparedness: for example, if I have not prepared well for Electronics and there is a good number of questions asked in GATE from electronics, I would naturally find GATE to be difficult.
2. Students strengths and weaknesses: for example, if I have sound concepts and weak at memorizing things, I would find JEST to be easier.
3. Question paper pattern: the pattern varies in terms of type of questions asked (MCQs, MSQs, Numerical Ability type etc.). The pattern sometimes has psychological effect on students participating in the examination. Sometimes, the language of question also does the trick.
4. Negative marking scheme also impacts the final performance of the different students differently.
5. Other factors like number of students attending the examination also impacts the performance outcome. GATE is more popular than JEST, hence is attempted by more candidates.

Having said that, as a general perception, JEST is considered to be tougher.

Hi Aspirant!

GATE and JEST are both national level entrance exams. JEST is a screening test for admission to PhD and Int. PhD programme of different participating institutes in physics and theorertical computer science / neuroscience. Whereas GATE is General aptitude test to get admission in M.tech program in IITs or any other reputed institutes. Being national level exams, both have good level of questions. But these two exams cannot be compared as one is for admission in M.tech while other is for admission in Phd.

Hope I answered your query, thankyou!
