Saint Augustine of Hippo is the patron saint of ancient philosophy.
His original Latin name was Aurelius Augustinus, and was born on November 13, 354. He died on August 28, 430. His important written works are Confession, and The City of God. In Roman Catholicism he is formally recognised as a doctor of the church.
