He was a Greek historian who lived in the 5th century BC and one of the earliest historians whose work survives. Though he was born around 485 BC....

He was a Greek historian who was born in Halicarnassus in the Persian Empire(modern-day Turkey) and lived in the fifth century BC (c.484–c. 425 BC), a contemporary of Thucydides,Socrates, and Euripides. He is often referred to as "The Father of History", a title first conferred byCicero;he was the first historian known to have broken from Homeric tradition to treat historical subjects as a method of investigation—specifically, by collecting his materials systematically and critically, and then arranging them into a histrographic narrative.

Herodotus has been called the “father of history.” An engaging narrator with a deep interest in the customs of the people he described, he remains the leading source of original historical information not only for Greece between 550 and 479 BCE but also for much of western Asia and Egypt at that time.  While little is known of the details of his life, it seems certain that he came from a wealthy, aristocratic family in Asia minor (https://www.ancient.eu/Asia_Minor/) who could afford to pay for his education. His skill in writing (https://www.ancient.eu/writing/) is thought to be evidence of a thorough course in the best schools of his day.
