Dear aspirant,

The underestimation is an inherent prejudice in the society. After independence, our country was seeking for quick economic development and we were in need of a lot of engineers, scientists, businessmen, officers etc. Hence, there were a lot of job opportunities and people pursued such courses for fulfilling the requirement. Hence, the people of that generation have a strong belief that only engineers/scientists/doctors do real jobs. Our economic situation is different now. Arts is an important channel and is a huge contributor for the economic and cultural developments of the country at this point. Additionally, we all have the privilege of pursuing our interests in this economic situation.

Hence, the underestimation is a result of generational bias. Pursue whatever you feel like and you'll be able to flourish.

Hope this helps.
