With a rank of 16,500 in the general category, it becomes difficult to secure a seat in the government IHM's when comparing the results of previous years. Last year, the closing ranks for central government IHM's were around 9,000 and the closing ranks for state government IHM's were around 13,000 in general category. These are the results of first round. But you can wait for the second round or final one. Else, apply for private institutes. Also, one thing to keep in mind is that scores and ranks vary each year with difficulty level of the question paper and availability of seats.
