Hello there,

This questions depends upon the college or university you are talking about. Some colleges take admissions on 12th basis while some demand entrance exams. The maximum number of central universities now requires CUET ( Common university entrance test) to take admission at both UG and PG level. University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Ambedkar University, Aligarh Muslim University, Sikkim University and so on.

There are colleges or universities which held their own entrance exam for the admissions. Manipal University Jaipur, MIT, Fergusson college. These colleges take their own entrance test for certain courses at certain graduation level.

And there are colleges which take admissions solely on the basis of class 12th merit. Like Bethune College, St. Andrew's, St. Xavier's, Fergusson College( at UG LEVEL) and many more.

To become doctor or engineer, we have JEE  and NEET exam respectively.

I hope this information would be helpful for you.
