Transpiration in plants is the process by which water moves out from the surface of leaves into the air in the form of water vapor. Plants take water from the soil through their roots. This water travels up through the stem to the leaves. Only a small part of this water is used for photosynthesis and other activities. The extra water is lost through tiny pores on the leaves called stomata.

Transpiration helps plants in many ways. It keeps the plant cool, similar to how sweating cools the human body. It also helps in the movement of water and minerals from the roots to different parts of the plant. Transpiration also maintains the water balance inside the plant.

So, transpiration is not just a loss of water but a very important process that supports the plant’s growth and survival.
