I understand that you are selected for an employee training programme by your company where you get an opportunity to learn more about your domain of work and would get an opportunity to interact with other fellow professionals and you are a bit sceptic about it and so to answer your question, you can initiate a conversation with some colleague or a group of colleagues of yours and ask about their names and likes and also get to about the places they are coming from. While you do that you can subtly discuss about yourself and share your work experience in your company and region of operation and while you do that also get to know about their part of this discussion.

You can then discuss about the opportunities of this training program and how it can be productive for you and the company. Also do compliment them for having to been their acquaintance and also do ask them about the expectations they have from this training.
Lastly, be comfortable, honest as much as possible and treat everyone with due respect and courtesy and you are good to make a great impression.
