The syllabus taught in first year completely depends upon the college. In most oof the colleges, The subjects in first year mostly are ENgineering Mathematics, Computer 1 and 2( where they will teach a programming language mostly C , C++ or JAVA),Engineering Design( yes even for ECE students), mechanics.
My college Also Taught us Environment science in our first year.
So I would recommend you to refer the academic chart of your college for a complete knowledge of your subjects.

Well, the syllabus for electrical engineering varies from college to college and board to board. But yes the prescribed books play a major role in the set of questions in the examination. Also the previous year question papers and notes of the teachers are essential to secure a good CGPA in the subjective examination.

After doing your graduation, you can either go for higher studies in IIT by qualifying GATE or go for M.S in the United States, Germany, Japan, Singapore, etc. If you have graduated from a decent college and have good CG then you'll get accepted by most top colleges around the world. Job opportunities in India for EIE graduate is pretty less. EIE graduate can consider a path in electronics/ automation/ control/ instrumentation/ power/ steel/Telecom/ Networks/ Oil and gas etc.
