Question : Directions: In a college, the total number of students who opted for Biology or Chemistry is 150. Later, 12 students who opted for Biology changed their preference and opted for Chemistry. Now, the number of students in Biology is half the number of students in Chemistry. How many students are in Chemistry now?
Option 1: 88
Option 2: 94
Option 3: 104
Option 4: 100
Correct Answer: 100
Solution : Given: The total number of students = 150 Let the number of students who opted for biology = x and the number of students who opted for chemistry = y This means – x + y = 150 — (i) Now, 12 students who opted for Biology changed their preference and opted for Chemistry. So, the new number of students who opted for biology = x – 12 and the new number of students who opted for chemistry = y + 12
The number of students in Biology is half the number of students in Chemistry – (x – 12) = (y + 12) ÷ 2 2(x – 12) = y + 12 2x – 24 = y + 12 2x – y = 36 — (ii) Adding the equations (i) and (ii) – x + y + 2x – y = 150 + 36 3x = 186 x = 186 ÷ 3 x = 62 Now, put the value of x in the equation (i) – 62 + y = 150 y = 150 – 62 = 88
So, the students who opted for chemistry now are (88 + 12) = 100. Hence, the fourth option is correct.

Hello Ayushi
Sorry to say that you will not be eligible for neet ug 2024. As per eligibility criteria you must get minimum 50 aggregate marks in physics, chemistry and biology .
If you have got more than 50 marks in any of the three subjects uou would have been eligible.
See you have got 45 marks in chemistry, 47 in physics and 49 marks in biology. The total of three is less than 50 % marks ie 150 marks . You have 9 marks less . If you would have got 9 more marks then you would have got opportunity to appear in Neet.
Now you can reappear for pcb exam ( not all ) and again trg for neet.
Good luck .
Yes, it's possible to change your stream after 12th and do arts in college. Many students switch streams based on their interests, preference and career goals. If you are interested in doing arts and want to explore that field, you can definitely make the switch in the career Just make sure to research the colleges and courses that offer the arts stream and meet their admission requirements.
In case you fail in your Biology exam in class 12, you may be given an opportunity to appear for a compartment exam for that particular subject. You will have to fill out the form and application with the school and then you'll be provided with the date of compartment exam. If you pass the compartment exam, you will be considered as having passed the board exams.
