What is the importance of a cinematographer in films

manisha.gupta 17th Nov, 2017

Cinematographer plays a vital role in films. If film making is all about storytelling through the vision of the director, then the cinematographer brings this vision alive on screen. cinematography is not only about recording with a camera or handling of camera for that matter. It involves a lot of technicalities like

Composing a shot within a frame

Controlling the exposure

Manipulating the colour temperature

Arrangement of lighting set up as per the demand of the scene and to create the desired mood.

Good Luck!

Urvashi Dalal 12th Sep, 2017
considering your profession, you must go for photojournalism. See, Cinematography is more of direction, dealing with scenes, frames, sets and movements, while photography is still. So going by your experience, go for photojournalism.

Is it easy to find job as cinematographer??

Anonymous 1st Aug, 2017
Cinematography has really good scope when compared to other departments in the film making.

Moreover, cinematography is not a job to talk about it in terms of scope for it, it is an art and you have to be ready to give up certain things in order to follow your dreams in the world of cinematography.

When you think of income, it again depends on your own talent, you can earn from somewhere around 10 lakhs to 2 crores per movie.

Hope this helps!!!
