kumardurgesh1802 10th Aug, 2024

Hello there,

With a B.Sc. in Computer Science from BITS Pilani, you can certainly apply for a master’s degree in both the UK and the USA. BITS Pilani is well-regarded, and your degree will be recognized by universities in both countries. Here are the steps to follow:

  • UK : Research universities and their specific requirements. Commonly, you'll need a good academic record, GRE scores (for some programs), and English proficiency tests (like IELTS or TOEFL). Many UK universities offer high-quality programs in Computer Science.

  • USA : Similarly, research universities and their requirements. You'll likely need to take the GRE, and provide TOEFL or IELTS scores. Many universities in the USA offer excellent computer science programs and value degrees from reputable institutions like BITS Pilani.

Applying for an H-1B Visa:

The H-1B visa is for employment in the United States, and you need to have a job offer from a U.S. employer who will sponsor you. To be eligible for an H-1B visa:

  • Job Offer : Secure a job offer from a U.S. employer in a role that requires a specialty occupation, typically related to your field of study.

  • Employer Sponsorship : The employer must file an H-1B petition on your behalf.

  • Qualifications : Your educational background and job experience should align with the job requirements.

In summary, you can pursue a master’s degree in the UK or USA with a B.Sc. in Computer Science from BITS Pilani. For the H-1B visa, you need to have a job offer and sponsorship from a U.S. employer.

Am I eligible for the NIMCET (B.Sc computer science (H), (without maths in graduation) (having Maths only in 10+2)?

Radhika Goyal 30th Aug, 2024

Hy,

To be eligible for the NIMCET (NIT MCA Common Entrance Test), which is used for admission to the MCA programs at various National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in India, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria. Here's how your educational background relates to NIMCET eligibility:

Eligibility Criteria for NIMCET

  1. Educational Qualifications:

    • Graduation Degree : Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree of at least 3 years duration from a recognized university. This degree can be in any discipline, but it should be from a recognized institution.
    • Mathematics Requirement : Mathematics must be one of the subjects in either:
      • 10+2 (Higher Secondary) : Candidates must have studied Mathematics in their 10+2 (Higher Secondary) school education.
      • Graduation Level : Candidates should have studied Mathematics as one of the subjects at the graduation level.
  2. Specific Cases:

    • B.Sc. Computer Science (Hons.) without Mathematics in Graduation : If you have a B.Sc. in Computer Science (Hons.) but did not study Mathematics as a subject in your graduation, you will not meet the eligibility requirement, as Mathematics at the graduation level is mandatory.
    • B.Sc. Computer Science (Hons.) with Mathematics in Graduation : If you have studied Mathematics as a subject in your B.Sc. Computer Science, you will meet the eligibility requirement.
    • Mathematics in 10+2 Only : If you studied Mathematics in your 10+2 but did not study it in your graduation, you will meet the eligibility criteria. This is because the requirement of having Mathematics in either 10+2 or graduation is acceptable.

Summary

  • Eligible : If you have studied Mathematics in either 10+2 or in your graduation.
  • Not Eligible : If you have not studied Mathematics at either level, or if your graduation degree does not include Mathematics as a subject and you do not meet the other criteria.

Radhika Goyal 13th Oct, 2024

Hy,

Based on your engineering cutoff of 169 , general rank of 44100 , and MBC rank of 11520 , here are some government engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu where you might have a chance to get admission in the Computer Science Engineering (CSE) program:

  1. Government College of Technology, Coimbatore
  2. Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli
  3. Government College of Engineering, Salem
  4. Government College of Engineering, Karur

Cutoff Trends

The cutoffs for government colleges can vary each year based on demand, so it’s essential to check the specific cutoffs for the colleges you are interested in for the CSE branch. For previous years, many government colleges generally have cutoffs ranging from 170 to 220 for CSE, which means you might be on the borderline, but you could still get a seat depending on the overall competition and category-wise reservations.

Suggestions

  • Keep checking the official DOTE Tamil Nadu website for updates on the counseling process and specific college cutoffs.
  • Consider other branches if you are open to them, as they may have lower cutoffs and can provide you with more options.
