See CSE is one of the core subjects in engineering and to the computer world. Whereas AI or ML all are subsets of CSE . But in present days those are also also considered as a different streams just because of our world is improving. So basic difference is CSE is a wide are where AI ,ML are implementation. Now it is completely to the students that where there particular choices are . Both the trades have equal opportunities only if the student have skill.
Out of the two courses that you chose, Computer Science Engineering is the base, and CSM is additionally based on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. If you have profound interest in Artificial Intelligence then you can proceed with CSM course, but if you have more interest in Computer designs, programming languages and different applications then CSE would be the best course for you. If you think of placements, core CSE students receive better placements as they have a vast knowledge regarding the subject. However now-a-days CSM placements are improving and you can expect even more than 30 LPA packages too.
Do check out the following link for more info on CSE
