how to study current affairs and how to prepare notes on current affairs and what are the sites for the preparation of current affairs for the UPSC exam

pdwords Student Expert 2nd Sep, 2020
Hello,

First thing is to be well acquainted with UPSC syllbus, this is important in order to know what to read and what to skip, reading newspaper on a daily basis is the best way to cover current affairs, The Hindu or The Indian Express are good options regarding this, the reason I told you to learn the syllabus is because here it comes handy, you don't have to read the entire newspaper, just stick to the syllabus portion, and making notes can be done in both ways, you can do that in register or loose sheets, or digitally there are various apps available for this, now the thing is for instance if a issue is ongoing or very prevalent and each days new things are coming up it can be anything related to government plans or for that matter any ongoing legal cases, the problem here is you don't know how long these will continue ,hence once you write something in a register, you have to leave some pages for the next information that will come up again, whereas if you make notes on loose sheets, there won't be much problem, you can at anytime add something to it, and doing digitally is of course a great thing, you can create topics and sub topics, and that's how entire thing is done, this same can be apply in hand notes as well.

There are various sites such as "Vision IAS" which offers monthly current affairs, you should go through these ,they cover each topics whether it's social, economics, technology etc in detailed manner, "Insights" too offer question on daily basis for practice, these are some of the sites you can refer and you can also use Pratiyogita Darpan, this magazine is really good covering every aspect, but one thing is very important no matter what site, magazine or anything else you refer, newspaper reading is must as this is the only way to cover even minute details which these sites or magazines may miss out.

should i read newspaper for wbcs? if yes then which newspaper should i read and which section? for Current Affairs, achievers or pratiyogita darpan which is better? Is 6 months current affairs enough before exam?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 27th Jul, 2020

hi,

reading news papers is a really good choice to gain your knowledges of current affairs, now coming to wbcs exam it would be best if you have idea of last 1 year current affairs. you may study bankars adda magazine, also pratiyogita darpan is a good option. also you may follow last year papers of wbcs and ssc exams current years gk questions. I would recommend times of India, since it has better upto date information. however you may also read regional papers.

wbcs is one of the toughest exam , every year numerous students apply for the exam, so beside study you must practice a lot. it would be best if you follow a daily routine and manage your studies on schedule.

best of luck for your future endeavor.

If I am giving the exam in 2021 then should I start the current affairs after the exam of 2020? As most of the sites refer to current affairs from may!

ginnisachdeva02_9364270 Student Expert 7th Jul, 2020

Hey!

As you have not mentioned the name of exam, so generally current affairs section includes the questions are from the data after the last exam. So, most preferably you should prepare current affairs after the exam of 2020. Also, based on the stream for which you are applying, you must gain some technical knowledge for that also.

Hope it helps.

Thank you
