i got compartment in 2 subject maths and physics in 12th . i had PCM,english, physical education as main subject and hindi as optional. but in result card .. physics is meantioned as additional subject and hindi is in main subject table. now will i repeat my 12th class or can clear both compartment

Samriddha Pal 11th Jun, 2025

Hello,

If you received a compartment in Mathematics and Physics in your Class 12 exams and your result card shows Physics as an additional subject while Hindi appears in the main subject table, it means your board has counted Hindi as one of your five main subjects instead of Physics. This usually happens when a student fails in one or more core subjects, and the board uses the highest-scoring optional subject to determine pass/fail status.

However, since Physics and Math are both core subjects in the PCM stream, and you’ve received compartments in them, you are still eligible to appear for compartment exams in both subjects—provided your board allows two compartments. You do not need to repeat your entire 12th class, but you must clear the compartment exams to be considered pass in the PCM stream and be eligible for further studies in Science or technical fields.

Hope this helps. All the best!

i got 65% in 12th this year with pcb English and hsc . Now i want to do pcmb with 2 more subjects with nios this year

Swati 16th Jun, 2025

Hi Aspirant

Yes you can absolutely pursue two more subjects including Mathematics through the National Institute of Open Schooling also known as NIOS even after completing your Class twelve through the HSC board This is a flexible option that allows students to enhance their academic qualifications and meet eligibility requirements for courses like engineering or other science related streams that require Mathematics as a compulsory subject

Here is how the process works step by step

First you must understand that NIOS allows learners to appear for up to a maximum of seven subjects You have already completed Class twelve with four subjects namely Physics Chemistry Biology and English So if you wish to study Mathematics and one more subject for example Computer Science or Hindi through NIOS you can enroll for these as part of the On Demand Examination or the April or October public examination sessions

To begin you must register as a learner on the official NIOS website Select the Senior Secondary stream during the registration process Choose Mathematics and your second desired subject from the list of available subjects Make sure you meet any prerequisites mentioned for those subjects although generally there are no restrictions for students who have already passed their board exams

After successful registration you will be provided with an enrollment number and study material either in online or printed form You can then begin your preparation NIOS offers online learning resources video lectures previous year papers and tutor support to help students understand the concepts

You must also complete the required Tutor Marked Assignments called TMAs for each subject you choose These are compulsory and must be submitted at your allotted study center before the final exam The weightage from these assignments will be added to your final result

Once you are ready you can choose to appear for the public exam which happens twice a year in April and October or opt for the On Demand Exam system which lets you choose your own exam dates depending on seat availability

Many students choose this route to add Mathematics to their Class twelve qualifications in order to become eligible for competitive exams like JEE or for courses that require both PCB and Mathematics as eligibility criteria

Do note that once you pass these two subjects through NIOS your new marksheet will reflect only those subjects You will still need to present your original HSC marksheet for the other subjects During college admissions both marksheets are usually considered together

Also be careful with subject selection The second subject apart from Mathematics should ideally align with your future academic or career goals

you can take Mathematics and another subject through NIOS after passing Class twelve with PCB and English via HSC Register online for Senior Secondary courses with your desired subjects Complete assignments attend exams and get your updated marksheet This pathway is valid for upgrading your academic profile and opens more course options in future

which marks will consider in councelling , if I have 6 subjects in class 12th , , overall result paas , but failed in chem , so i filled 5 improvement exam and passed in chem , score better in english and Ped than previous , but failed in physics ,and maths , which marks will consider in councelling

Manav 11th Jun, 2025

In your case, you mentioned that you initially passed overall but failed in Chemistry. You then appeared for five improvement exams, passed Chemistry, and scored better in English and Physical Education. However, you failed in Physics and Mathematics during this improvement attempt.

Counselling authorities, whether for engineering, medical, or general undergraduate admissions, require that a student must pass in all compulsory subjects as prescribed by the board and the respective course eligibility criteria. If you have failed in Physics and Mathematics in your improvement attempt, your improvement marksheet will not be considered valid until you pass those subjects. Even if your original marksheet showed a pass in Physics and Mathematics but failure in Chemistry, it too would not be valid for science-based courses unless all required subjects are cleared.

The rule followed by most boards and admission authorities is that you must have a valid passing certificate in all subjects relevant to the course. They will consider your latest marks in each subject , only if you have passed them. If you failed in Physics and Mathematics in the improvement, but passed them earlier, the authorities may consider the earlier scores only if your board allows combining results from both attempts . This is usually done through a consolidated marksheet .

Therefore, to be eligible for counselling, you need a final marksheet showing a pass in all required subjects . Without this, your application may be rejected, regardless of higher marks in some subjects.
