I am in 12th how to start preparation for ipm exam entrance exam of IIM integrated bba +MBA. What are the books required ??

snehasinha1718 Student Expert 20th Aug, 2019

Hey,

Integrated Programme in Management [IPM], is a five year post graduate programme offered by IIM-Indore. There are around 120 seats available.

An entrance exam to test the aptitude, Logical Reasoning and English and Mathematics skills must be taken by all applicants who meet the eligibility criteria based on their application.

The IIM Indore’s website clearly specifies the attributes that they desire from IPM students:

1. Communication skills

2. General awareness

3. Persuasion skills

4. Confidence levels

This makes your task relatively easy. However, you shouldn’t bank on these points alone. Usually, candidates who get through the PI round are ones who are aware of themselves, their surroundings [city, state, country and world], assertive but not aggressive and self-confident. These attributes should be prominent in all your replies.

A handy tip: If you don’t know the answer to the question posed by an interviewer, admit it. Don’t try to bluff your way through it.

Although, the number of students applying for the IPM programme are lesser as compared to CAT, it doesn’t make it any easier. Preparing for the IPMAT by studying at home, without any guidance can be counterproductive. Assess your strengths and weaknesses by appearing for some mock tests and drawing out a study plan.

For MATHS cover your 11th and 12th N.C.E.R.T First then come to alternative book like R.S Aggarwal , Clear your basics and solve the questions as much as possible. For DI/LR you can follow Arun Sharma . Scoring in this part is little bit difficult. (Don’t bother about it as there is no negative marking). Answering more than 18 questions in this section is safer side in IPM Paper.

In English buy Wren & Martin for Grammar and Word Power Made Easy For Vocab. For passage, i should advice you to read “The Hindu” (Here i am not promoting Kasturi and Sons Ltd.) It would help you in developing reading skills as well as your Current Affairs Parts (Which is the key factor at the time of Interview and WAT).

Word of Advice - General Category Cutoff of Aptitude Test 2018 is around 140 marks, If you solve 15–20 Questions out of 60 Q in Maths and 25–30 out of 40 Q in English then definitely you would get call from IIM - Indore for WAT + PI.

Hope this helps.

Hello, i got 79% in 10th grade, and 72% in 12th, and 80% in Bcom, and i am expecting a 98 percentile in CAT, can i get a call from any IIM?

Deepshikha Student Expert 30th Sep, 2019
Hey,
Every IIM has different set of criteria for selection of the candidates. You need to be either exceptionally great in your academics or you need to be just that well in your extracurricular activities. But ultimate game changer is the CAT score.
Even if you your academic profile is not great,if you score above 97 percentile, you are likely to get a call from IIMs.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

I am 12th class pcm how to start preparation for ipm exam indore iim bba + MBA integra ted courses???

ADITYA KUMAR Student Expert 19th Aug, 2019
Hello there!
Greetings!
IPM stands for Integrated Programme in Management. As the name suggests, it is an integrated management education program. IIM-Indore is the institute that introduced this program in India. The program's structure resembles BBA + MBA Integrated course.

Preparation Strategy for IPM-AT:

  • The Basics:Both sections have questions that are concept driven. Hence, it is imperative that you revise and strengthen your basics. Prepare the concepts well, revise them regularly and practice a plethora of questions for each concept.
  • Advanced Mathematics:The Quantitative Aptitude section comprises 60% of the paper. The questions are a mix bag from various areas and the difficulty level is between moderate to difficult. Hence, to achieve a good overall score, it is essential that you score well in this section.
  • Mock it up:The IPM Aptitude Test checks you on subject knowledge and your ability to manage time without compromising on accuracy. And as it is an online test, it is essential that you practice several mock tests. This will condition you to the actual test taking conditions and help you score well.
  • Analysis: Strengths & Weakness:Post the mock test; it is strongly advised that you do a thorough analysis of the test. Recognize your strong and weak areas and work on them accordingly. Revise your strong topics regularly and devote extra time and effort to improve the weak ones.
  • Ace the game with Practice:Its about how quickly and accurately you solve a certain question nationally. At the end of the day, practice does make a man perfect. Live by this rule when preparing for this exam.
thankyou

Im doing b. Com I want to get admission in IIM for MBA so please give me suggestions what I do for it

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 19th Aug, 2019
Dear Jyoti, CAT is the entrance exam for admission to IIMs. And there are 20 IIMs in India. The admission criteria of each IIM is independant to mandate their own eligibility criteria including CAT score, accademic cut offs, past academic performance, relevant work experience, etc. Selection of Candidates for Institutions accepting CAT scores depends upon the Institution you are interested in. The basic step is to check your CAT score and few Institutions conduct further rounds like Written Ability Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The weightage will be given to both the procedures while selecting a Candidate. Candidates will mostly be shortlisted based on their CAT scores. The 20 IIMS and all the Participating Institutions will announce their Cut offs. The cut off is prepared after checking various factors. MBA aspirants will have to apply separately to all the Colleges that accept CAT scores. While CAT score remains the main criteria for selection, IIMs also consider other factors like previous academic performance, work experience, gender and Academic diversity.

CAT is an online examination of 3 hours duration. The questions in the exam will be of MCQ and TITA type totaling 100 questions. MCQ are multiple choice questions, for which candidates get multiple answer choices. Each Question has 3 marks and a wrong answer takes away 1 mark. However Type in the Answer questions are exempted from Negative Marking.

CAT exam paper can be Categorised into 3 parts:

Quantitative Ability
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

The Verbal Ability section and Reading Comprehension has 34 Questions, Data interpretation-Logical Reasoning section has 32 MCQ questions and Quantitative Ability has 34 MCQ questions totalling up to 100 questions. Each Question has 3 marks and a wrong answer takes away 1 mark.

First things first, know the syllabus. And go through the previous papers to analyse and prepare a comprehensive plan and set priorities according to the importance of different topics across sections.Customise your own study plan based on your strengths and weaknesses. Gauge your preparation from time to time by taking mock tests. Solve questions to check your levels of preparation but not to set any targets. Remember, its ok to have cheat days and relax. But make sure you have a plan and stick to it for the next few months because even Rome wasnt built in a day.

NCERT books will sharpen your basics and you need strong basics for preparing for any entrance examination. Once your basics are in place, because the time period for preparation is quite less, your preparation should be extensive and thorough.

Quantitative Aptitude covers almost 30% of the CAT question paper. QA can be categorised into Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Advanced Mathematics. Practise chapter by chapter and develop mental calculations. Like practise more of basic summation, subtraction, fractions and tables. Numbers, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Ratio, Proportionality, Time-Distance, Time-Work, Mixtures, Averages, Partnership, Permutation and Combinations, Probability, Set Theory, Progression and Series, Line, Angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Polygon, Circles, Ares, Volume, Height and Distance, Coordinate Geometry, Basic Trigonometry are few important topics.

Preparation tips:

Because this section involves mathematics and takes most of your time, your focus should be on solving the problems efficiently in the beginning. Even if it takes time, practise upto perfection. Practise as many questions as you can in the conventional way. As and when you get a grip on the subject, you can go for short cuts. Memorise tables, square roots, cube roots, conversion from percent to fraction, etc. Solve sample papers on Mathematics. In the beginning, do not worry about the time it takes. As you practise, you will get the hang of the subject and it will be easier for you.

In Verbal Ability session, command on your English, Grammar, Vocabulary, Understanding of the given paragraph are of more importance. Reading English NewsPaper will also help you in your preparation.

Preparation tips:

Read articles from time to time. Follow newspapers, magazines, and watch the news channels and browse the internet to keep yourself updated. You will need a lot of reading to help you in the comprehension section. You will need speed to help you in this section and you can achieve that only by thorough practise and reading. Take time to understand the question because most answers are interlinked.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning needs to be practised as much as possible. Comparison of data, Data Analysis, taking clues, interpreting missing data, coming to conclusions and making future projections will be covered under this Category. The questions here are interlinked and so if you get one formula correct, cracking the next few questions will be easy. So it's important to memorise and practise formulae. You should cover topics like Data tables, Data Charts, Bar Diagrams, Pie Charts, Graphs, Data Comparison and Analysis.

Preparation tips:

As this is the most tricky section, this needs a lot of practise. Solve as many sample papers as possible to get the hang of the section. Make notes when required. Regular practise can help you understand and solve the questions easily as time goes on.

Overall, once you know the syllabus, it's easier from there on.Go through the previous papers to analyse and prepare a comprehensive plan and set priorities according to the importance of different topics across sections. Customise your own study plan based on your strengths and weaknesses. Gauge your preparation from time to time by taking mock tests. Solve questions to check your levels of preparation but not to set any targets. Remember, its ok to have cheat days and relax. But make sure you have a plan and stick to it for the next few months.

  • The newly established IIMs follow a Common Admission Process which is also called CAP. The shortlisted candidates will have to appear for a Common Written Ability Test and Personal Interview Rounds. A separate Institute wise merit list will be prepared and this merit list will be declared based on individual admission and selection criteria.

  • IIM Sirmaur, IIM Jammu, IIM Nagpur will release their own merit list according to the CAT score or percentile and profile of the Candidate. There are no further rounds for these Institutions.

  • The B schools which do not fall under IIMs will conduct their own selection process. The process of selection such as Group Discussion, Written Ability Test and Personal Interview are conducted at the Institution's discretion.

  • IMT Ghaziabad, MICA conduct group activity or group exercise instead of group discussion. Some Institutioms also conduct Written Ability Test and Personal Interviews after Group Discussion.

Required percentiles:

  • FMS, Delhi needs 95 percentile.
  • IIM Shillong: 92 percentile
  • NITIE Mumbai: 91 percentile
  • IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Tiruchirapalli, MDI Gurgaon, IIM Udaipur, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IMT Ghaziabad, IMI New Delhi, XIM Bhubaneshwar and New IIMS need 90 percentile.

For example, IIM Khozikhode Admission Criteria for 2019- 21; Shortlisting criteria:

  • CAT Overall Index Score carried 75% weightage
  • Class 12 percentage carried 7.5% weightage
  • Graduation score carried 7.5% weightage
  • Work Experience carried 5% weightage
  • Academic diversity factor carried 5% weightage

So you need to score nothing less than 95% in CAT to get into an IIM.

Dear Tanvi, there are 20 IIMS and each IIM has a different admission criteria. While the basic eligibility criteria remains 50% aggregate for General Category in Graduation, its 45% for Reserved Categories or equivalent CGPA from any recognised University. The admission criteria of each IIM is independant to mandate their own eligibility criteria including CAT score, accademic cut offs, past academic performance, relevant work experience, etc. Each IIM has its own selection process and is independant of other IIMs selection process. For example, IIM Khozikhode Admission Criteria for 2019- 21; Shortlisting criteria:

CAT Overall Index Score carried 75% weightage

Class 12 percentage carried 7.5% weightage
