Hi Lakshay...
IELTS Writing tests consist of two compulsory tasks . Each of these tasks are scored with respect to four different criteria.
The examiner assesses your IELTS Academic Writing & General Training Writing Test on the below listed criteria. Each criterion contributes 25% of your total marks for Task 1 and Task 2.
Task Achievement (for Task 1)
This criterion examines the overview and information that you provide, details of your content and the accuracy with which you have mentioned key features and illustrations. You are supposed to write 150 words for Task 1. Else there will be penalty for word count.
Task Response (for Task 2)
In this criterion, the type of response that you write for the essay type question is determined. It assesses the main idea of your essay and the way you develop it with relative examples. You are supposed to write 250 words for Task 2. Otherwise you will be penalized for under word count. To avoid such problems, you must learn how the examiner counts your word and how many words u should write.
Coherence & Cohesion
Your information organisation, paragraphing skills and use of proper lexical devices (for example, connectors, conjunctions) is determined.
Number of paragraphs are also taken into consideration. Dividing your essay into more or less paragraphs might lower your score.
Lexical Resource
The use of sufficient range of vocabulary, proper spellings, correct implementation of collocations and word formation are taken care of while scoring this criterion. You must avoid using wrong words and informal language.
Grammatical Range & Accuracy
To score this criterion, things taken into consideration include sentence structures, proper use of tenses, putting right punctuation’s, use of simple as well as complex statements with clear idea and control over Grammar.
Hope this helps.....Thank U

Hello,
there has currently been no change in the IELTS format. Although the format for IELTS general and IELTS academic are slightly different. If you are planning to apply for a university or for higher study in a foreign country, then you will need to provide IELTS Academic scores and not IELTS General test scores.

Hi Manas,
The only known way to improve your reading abilities is to read more and more. You can start with English newspaper dailies and normal reading websites like medium and Quora. You can also read some novels for fun and get the hang of the language. After you are able to establish certain level of comprehensibility while reading, you can start working on your writing skills.
Goodluck;)
Almost all universities in USA and Canada accept IELTS Academic scores for English language proficiency except Ivy league universities like MIT. A better option is TOEFL iBT for English language proficiency as it is accepted in all the universities in USA and Canada.
Dear Venu, IELTS is accepted in countries like Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, UK and Canada. This is a language proficiency test usually taken for educational and employment purposes. IELTS is just one criteria among many that you need to fulfill to work abroad. For few countries, your job should be listed amongst the 'Highly Skilled Occupation' to hire an overseas candidate. So before you attepmt either IELTS or TOEFL, you need to figure out which country do you want to work in. In USA, BAMS professionals cannot be called Doctors. You cannot diagnose a medical condition nor can you interfere with the prescription of a legal physician.
