I am doing my last year in undergraduation in english and now I want to go for IIMC but the problem I am assuming is that I have not any knowledge or skills regarding journalism. So will it create any problem during pursuing IIMC courses or will they teach from the basic?

Kanishka kaushikii 7th Sep, 2024

Don't worry about your lack of journalism experience. IIMC, and many other journalism schools, are designed to cater to students with diverse backgrounds. They understand that not everyone will have prior journalism experience.

Here's what you can expect:

  • Basic Journalism Fundamentals: The courses will start from the ground up, teaching you essential concepts like news gathering, writing, editing, and reporting.
  • Hands-on Training: You'll likely have opportunities for practical training, such as internships or field assignments, to gain real-world experience.
  • Mentorship: Experienced faculty and mentors will guide you through the learning process and provide valuable feedback.

While a background in journalism can certainly be beneficial, it's not a strict requirement. Your ability to learn, think critically, and communicate effectively will be more important factors.

Focus on developing your writing skills, honing your curiosity, and building a strong understanding of current affairs. These skills will be invaluable as you embark on your journalism journey.

I hope this information helps you.

Im gonna get fee reimbursement for tuition fee in ap. So, can i get education loan for other expenses except tuition fee. Like hostel fee, mess fee, library fee, etc..?

Afreen 2nd Oct, 2024

The fee reimbursement scheme in Andhra Pradesh is generally not structured as a loan that needs to be repaid to the government. Instead, it is a financial assistance program where the government directly pays the eligible students' tuition fees to the colleges but only tution fees is reimbursed so students still face difficulties to pay the other expenses like hostel, mess, library fee etc.there are various education loan schemes include expenses apart from tuition fees You can apply for them the bank will verify your fee reimbursement details and assess your eligibility based on the remaining expenses you need to cover and then loan get pass.

Nikita shahi 25th Aug, 2025

You’re right, the email only mentions 2 hours, MCQs + descriptive. Generally, for Journalism entrance exams, the subjects covered are:

  • Current Affairs & General Knowledge (especially related to media/news).
  • English Language (grammar, comprehension, essay writing).
  • Media & Communication Aptitude (basics of journalism, advertising, public relations).
  • Reasoning/Logical Ability (basic aptitude questions).
  • Descriptive part usually has essay writing, précis writing, or short answers on media-related topics.

Hope this clear your doubt!

I want to do master of mass communication and journalism in Patna University. How can I get admission and what is the syllabus of entrance exam ?

Nitin Kumar 7th Jun, 2024

Patna University offers a Master of Arts (MA) in Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC), not a separate Master's degree in Mass Communication and Journalism.

You need a Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 45% marks for eligibility.

There is no mention of a separate entrance exam for the MJMC program on Patna University's website. Admissions are likely based on merit, possibly considering your Bachelor's degree marks.

Visit the official Patna University website and navigate to the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication section. Look for the MJMC program and admission details.

The university website might have contact information for the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. You can call or email them directly to inquire about the admission process and entrance exam (if any).

Im arts student and noww Im in 12th and I want to do BA mass comm. and journalism but Im confused about my subjects that I had taken is good for it or not English, history, geography and pol.sci is my main subjects can I do it ?

Nitin Kumar 7th Jun, 2024

The subjects you've chosen (English, History, Geography, and Political Science) are all excellent choices for a BA in Mass Communication and Journalism.

Strong English language skills are fundamental for a career in journalism and mass communication. You need to write clearly, concisely, and persuasively across various media formats.

Understanding historical events and trends provides valuable context for your future work as a journalist. It helps you analyze current events and their potential impact.

Geography teaches you about the world's social, political, and economic landscapes. This knowledge is crucial for journalists who report on global issues.

Political Science equips you with an understanding of government systems, political ideologies, and current affairs. This knowledge base is invaluable for journalists covering politics and policy.

I am a working professional doing a job in finance I want to switch my career into journalism please suggest some colleges and programs I can persuade with my job

Nikita shahi 15th Jul, 2025

Hi,

It’s great that you're planning to switch career to journalism, even while working in finance. Journalism is a field where strong communication, analytical skills, and a curious mindset matter and your background in finance could give you a better chance especially in business or financial journalism. Another thing to keep in mind that you're a working professional, you’ll probably want a program that offers flexibility like evening classes, weekend lectures or, part-time.

There are some college/program options you can consider:

1. Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Delhi & other centres,Offers a 1-year PG Diploma in Journalism,Known for its practical training and Some short-term certificate programs are also available.

2. Asian College of Journalism (Chennai),offers a 1-year PG Diploma in Journalism,full-time, but worth exploring if you plan to take a career break.

3. Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC), Pune it's offers PG programs in mass communication, check if part-time or distance learning options are available.

You can check more journalism courses and colleges here:
