how to practice legal reasoning

Virat Srivastava 3rd Jul, 2021

Tips and Tricks to practice Legal Reasoning:

  • Read the comprehension first and then attempt the question. Do not read the hypothetical situation first.
  • The view of the author is paramount. Do not superimpose your view while answering the questions.
  • Always go with an answer which has clear reference in the passage.
  • Do not miss any Mock Tests or any practice test provided to you. There are no proper reference books available on the new pattern and the only source to practice these questions are the tests provided to you. So take the tests seriously and try to improve your legal comprehension skills through these tests.
  • Work consistently on your reading skills.

Important Legal Reasoning topic for CLAT:

  • Candidate must continuously invest time in reading articles related to static and current legal issues.
  • Focus on the legal issues from last 10 months and read about them.
  • Special attention should be paid to landmark judgments and important cases from the last year.
  • Read about all the new amendments and enactments done in both monsoon and winter sessions of the parliament along with contemporary issues like LGBTQ rights or the death penalty which have been a part of the news in the last few months.
  • Reading about static and current legal issues prior to your CLAT  will help you in understanding the passage easily and at a much faster pace during your final exam.
  • You might land up in a situation where you are running out of time and cannot invest the last three-four minutes left in reading the entire passage. In that case, understanding of the legal issue will be of great help as you might be able to answer a couple of questions even without reading the entire passage word to word.

Hope, it helps!

Sharon Rose Student Expert 3rd Jul, 2021

Hello,

The questions from aptitude section can be given from anywhere within the specified syllabus. There are various materials and practice books for LAWCET entrance examinations. The questions given in the exam will be of same model as in the study materials. The numerical values may vary may not vary. It is not guaranteed that the exact questions as in study materials or reference books will be asked in the exam. You do not have to worry, if you practice as many sums as you can you will automatically know how to solve a sum during the actual exam. You get an idea on how to solve aptitude questions. So practice is the key, you will understand the various types of questions, you will learn different ways to solve a sum.

differences between legal reasoning and logical reasoning for CLAT 2020exam

Akram Khan 9th May, 2020

Hi,

In clat exam the question of legal reasoning will be from the passage of 450 words given each.

Each passage would be followed by a series of questions that will require you to:

  • Identify and infer the rules and principles set out in the passage;
  • Apply such rules and principles to various fact situations; and
  • Understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various fact situations

The logical reasoning in clat exam includes short passage of 300 words each.

Each passage will be followed by one or more questions that will require you to:

  • Recognize an argument, its premises and conclusions;
  • Read and identify the arguments set out in the passage;
  • Critically analyse patterns of reasoning, and assess how conclusions may depend on particular premises or evidence;
  • Infer what follows from the passage and apply these inferences to new situations;
  • Draw relationships and analogies, identify contradictions and equivalence, and assess the effectiveness of arguments

This is the difference between logical reasoning and legal reasoning for clat 2020 exam.

Hope it helps.
