Metallurgical Engineer
Hi,
Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) combines engineering, physics and chemistry principles to solve the real-world problems associated with nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, energy, manufacturing and other major engineering disciplines.
Metallurgical engineers usually focus on the production of metals, metallic parts and the properties of those materials. They help make products stronger, more durable, lighter weight and more energy efficient, especially when utilizing recycled materials rather than ores.
While looking at the scopes for these branches, a metallurgical engineer can work in electrical and mechanical machinery factories. Some government agencies also are major recruiters.
For material science engineers, the major jobs are
First of all understand the difference between these two branches and identify the job which suits your interest the most. If you are more into physical work and experimental field, choose metallurgy. If you are more of a developer and theorist, choose material science. None of these is a better course than the other. The choice depends completely upon your skill and interest.

Hello Aspirant,
Buddy, You shouldn’t look down upon any branch unless you have the proper knowledge about it and its future prospects. Metallurgical and materials engineering is a great branch . Moreover, you have a chance to be a part of one of the top NITs. There are plethora of great opportunities for metallurgists in various facets like academia, Industry and even higher studies.
Placements : Metallurgical and Materials engineering department of NITR provides really good placement with an average package of 6-6.5 LPA. Recent placement seasons have seen a drift of students from the core companies towards the non-core sector. Major recruiters are Reliance, Tata, Jindal Steel, Vedanta.
Feel free to ask any questions.
All the best for your future.
Hello aspirant! Hope you are doing well! Taking about Mechanical engineering 1) Helps student to understand the working mechanisms of heavy tools and machineries 2) Employment opportunity- who have practical knowledge like testing of machinery (Diploma holders) 3) Emerging field - renewable energy, automobiles, quality control, Industrial Automation, Mechanobiology 4) Salary- 3-4lakhs median https://www.careers360.com/courses/mechanical-engineering-course Taking about Metallurgical engineering 1) Helps students understand detail about various metals and its application in daily lives 2) Employment opportunity- Make in India” initiative have resulted to make India on the world as a manufacturing hub which requires lots of metallurgical engineers. 3) Scope- work in various big MNCs industries and earn a handsome salary 4) Salary- 4-5lakhs median https://www.careers360.com/courses/metallurgical-engineering-course
hello jagan
as you are comparing colleges ,so don't just rely on a single view and research carefully before taking admissions .for this question ,i think i will chose doing btech from top NITs rather then a dual degree . i believe dual degree will help you more if you want to go into research field . after doing btech you have a lot new options than dual degree. also the placements is comparable between the two .even i think the placement is better in btech .so these are all my personal views and you should search more by yourselves
best wishes
As you are saying that your ST category Rank is 3067 there are less chances of getting it Because you are Belonging from Other State Quota. But one of my friend getting Metallurgical Branch in MANIT Bhopal in 2018 having more than 3200+ rank but he is getting this branch becuase he is belonging from the home state quota. Instead Of MANIT OR MNIT you can get easily metallurgical/Biomedical engineering at NIT RAIPUR. But fill out the option correctly so that you can get better college This is Year 2020 Everything is happen is unpredictable. so it hopes you can get MANIT.
Hello dear student
Actually both are partially similar in placement and campus life but the big difference in NIRF ranking .
IITEST Shibpur -
Engineering ranking -
All India ranking - 21 in 2020
Publisher - NIRF
NIT Silchar -
Engineering Ranking -
All India Ranking - 46 in 2020

Best of luck
Hi
Metallurgical and materials engineering at IIEST Shibpur is one of the oldest department
IIEST Shibpur has better than average placement especially in dept of metallurgy and mining.
Packages of 8lpa are common and Coal India, Vedanta, Tata steel visit for offering campus placements.
The average package across all branches stand at 6 lpa, higher than most NITs and comparable to Top 3 NITs.
Also it depends upon the demand in industries, market of that year and many other factors.
Hope it helps!
