hello sir/madam,through metallurgical engineering, which kind of jobs I can expect ? Is it a good decision to go with this stream ?

darshita 19th Mar, 2021

Hello,

Metallurgists are material scientists who specialize in metals such as steel, aluminium, iron, copper etc.

  • They also work with alloys to create other elements to create different types of materials. They are also known as material science engineers or metallurgical engineers.
  • Metallurgical Engineers extract, refine and recycle metals. They solve problems such as reducing corrosion, maintaining heat levels and increasing the strength of the product.
  • They help develop or improve metals that are used in healthcare, transportation, defense and entertainment industry.
  • The three main branches of Metallurgical Engineering Course are physical metallurgy, extractive metallurgy and mineral processing.
  • Metallurgical engineers can seek employment in metal and metal extraction companies.
  • A metallurgical engineer can take up any of the following profiles like Researcher, Metallurgist, Welding Engineer, Plant Equipment Engineer, Ballistics Engineer, Quality Planning Engineer, etc.
  • The pay is minimal 6 lakh but it does go up with experience.
  • They scope of these Engineer is not very bright in countries like India.

Hope this helps!!!

Between Electrical engineering and metallurgical engineering, which one is better to persue ?

darshita 19th Mar, 2021

Hello,

electrical engineering

  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduates can make a rewarding career in the fields of computer and digital systems, control systems and robotics. IT sector companies, the manufacturing sector, and gov't organizations look out for electrical and electronics engineers.
  • It's easy to get your first Electrical Engineering job. Graduates of engineering schools start Electrical Engineering careers fairly easily because most employers search for fresh minds with good training
  • In India, a fresher who has cleared the degree in Electrical Engineering can get the offer of salary started from 2 lakh per annum upto 5 lakh per annum.
  • In abroad, the average salary of electrical engineers is $65000 per annum.

metallurgical engineering

  • Unlike other core disciplines like electrical, mechanical and civil where demand is always there, demand of metallurgy is highly fluctuating and time dependent.
  • There is not much scope.
  • Metallurgical engineers are required in every industry and enterprise that produces, buys, sells refines or manufactures metals or metallic products.
  • Metallurgical, Mining and Geological Engineers are a type of engineering geologist that work with the logistics of mines and mining - existing and new mines.
  • The salary of a metallurgical engineer is as high as Rs. 6 lakh per year. The salary increases with skills and years of experience.

Those metallurgical engineers sometimes get good pay but there job are scarce where electronic engineering has demand every where.

Hope this helps!!!

I got 45.92 percentile in jee mains 2021 session lam obc ncl male pwd candidate can I get warangal NIT for metallurgical engineering or ECE or EEE for sure in home state quota

Ashish Kumar Verma 11th Mar, 2021

Hello Dear,

As the percentile mentioned by you your General AIR rank must be between 573996 - 400110. But your category rank will be much lower. There is a good chance that you can get NIT Warangal on your rank because the cutoff rank for NIT Warangal for metallurgical engineering or ECE or EEE branch is much lower in your category. For more information you can check the list below:

https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/jee-main-cutoff-for-nit-warangal

but as you know cut off depends upon the number of seats available, the difficulty level of paper and number of candidates writing the examination. And, hence varies every year depending on these factors. You have mentioned your home state so the chances are very good to get your desired college. You can check the rank vs percentile vs marks below:

You can check our predictors link to know more about the college which you can get

what is best option after completing be in metallurgical and materials science engineering apart from mtech?or which country has good scope for this field for mtech?

Abhishek Roy 20th Dec, 2020

There are a lot of options after graduating in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

If you are from a IIT, NIT or GFTI or a Top State Technical Institute like BIT Sindri, Anna University, Jadavpur University or GEC Salem, you must be having standard placements in your Institute in Core Industries.

Of course many students appear for GATE Examination for Admission in higher Technical Institutes in India like Top IITs and IISC Bangalore for their Masters and Doctoral degree. Most of the IITs as well as IISc Bangalore have standard placements for Materials Postgraduate students, with top companies like Applied Materials, Micron, Boeing, Airbus, Rolls Royce, Tata Steel, JSW, Jindal Stainless, AM/NS India opening positions.

You can perhaps give the GRE Examination for admission in a Masters/MS in Material Science and Engineering in some of the Top Universities of the World. Materials Engineering has a great scope and career prospects in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan and Singapore. Nowadays, most of the students going for education abroad especially in the United States directly go for a Doctoral Degree as the Materials Industry demands expertise in technology. Intel, Apple and a dozen more semiconductor and technology companies like HP and Micron, besides companies like Caterpillar, Tesla, United Steel Corporation, Ford, Rio Tinto, BMW and Nucor Steel are regular recruiters of Material Engineers in the United States. Materials Engineers are excellent Quality Engineera, and hence their rising demand in the Automotive and Mechanical Industry. Many even join National Research Labs as scientists or Top Institutions as Academics and Researchers after a Doctoral degree. Many even return to India and continue their research career in Institutions like the IITs or Laboratories like National Metallurgical Laboratory Jamshedpur and DMRL Hyderabad.

Other options include getting a placement after Metallurgical Engineering, perhaps most of the IITs and NITs have standard placements for Metallurgical Branch in both Core and Non Core Sectors with Finance, Software, Consulting and Analytics sectors having some of the highest preferred Non Core placement opportunities besides regular Core Opportunities.

Public Sector Units provide a promising career for Metallurgical Engineers. Under PSUs you have SAIL, Nalco, IOCL, BIS, RINL, Midhani as well as public research organizations like BARC, DRDO, ISRO and National Metallurgical Laboratory which open each year for Metallurgical Graduates either through GATE or through their own entrance Examination followed by Interview.

Metallurgical Engineers are excellent Operation Managers, hence you can even consider going for a MBA post your Bachelors Degree in Engineering and later choose the Manufacturing and Operations Industry with excellent career prospects.

what is best option after be metallurgical and materials from ms . university?

Abir Gayen 14th Dec, 2020
Hi Aspirant,
You can do the best things after metallurgical be like you can go for a job or for higher studies.Metallurgy is one of the most popular branch and also you can get several high paying jobs after studying the course.Similarly you can go for civil examination to get respectable and high paying jobs.you can also go for masters but chances are less that you get a high paying job after that. But if you pursue a job in metallurgical field that would be best!!
Hope it helps!!
