Dear applicant it's great that you have profound interest in Psychology. To become a Psychologist in India first in your 10+2 keep psychology as one of your principle subjects. Followed by pursuing any of the degrees like:

1. B.A Psychology

2. B.Sc Psychology

3. B.A in Applied Psychology

During your Bachelor's degree try to gain some working experience on Subjects to gather deep knowledge about the subject.

Then Pursue either M.Sc in Psychology or M.A in Psychology and after that accomplish your goal by completing PhD in the subject. Then you are all set to counsel patients and make them mentally healthy.

Well you have a wonderful goal.

See, to become a psychologist you can take any stream in class 11th. But the preferred streams are SCIENCE and ARTS. Along with this you can also take Psychology as a subject.

Studying psychology in 11th and 12th provides a better understanding and keeps the basics strong.

Studying Biology helps to get a better understanding of human mind.

After completing your 12th you need to do BA or BSc in Psychology.

Then you can do Masters.

Further you can also do doctorate level via Phd. and MPhil.

Hi aspirants

The first step to become a Psychologist, you will need to cover up the entire degree level, i.e. Bachelor in Psychology, post graduation degree and then Ph. D degree. The psychology program extended to 4 year undergraduate degree in addition to 4 to 6 years doctorate degree.

Eligibility criteria for UG

Undergraduate Level

  • Candidates from all streams can pursue psychology courses.

  • Candidates who have completed 10+2 from a recognized board of education are eligible with a prerequisite that they have scored at least 55% marks.

  • Additional eligibility criteria may also be mentioned by a few colleges during admission.

  • Merit-based admissions or admissions through entrance exams are decided by the specific colleges.

Yes, such a candidate is eligible for MA in psychology. The basic eligibility criteria for MA psychology is doing graduation from a recognised university (some universities require bachelor's degree in psychology) with a minimum of 45-50% marks.

You can opt either of them as you will study the paper of social psychology in both the courses. But if you want to become a school counsellor, you will have to do a course in school counseling after graduation. There are five to six institutes in our country that provide this course:
