I need to study plastic surgery course. What is the eligiblity in neet for taking the course.

Nitin Kumar 6th Jun, 2024

NEET itself doesn't directly determine eligibility for a Plastic Surgery course in India. NEET is the entrance exam for undergraduate medical programs (MBBS, BDS). To become a plastic surgeon, you'll need to follow a specific path after qualifying for NEET.

The first step is to qualify for NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate) by scoring well in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (or Biotechnology) in your Class 12th board exams.

After qualifying for NEET UG, you need to complete your MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree program from a recognized medical college in India. This typically takes 4.5 to 5 years to complete.

Once you have your MBBS degree, you need to qualify for NEET PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate Courses). This exam determines your eligibility for admission to postgraduate medical programs.

Based on your NEET PG score, you'll need to pursue an MD (Doctor of Medicine) or MS (Master of Surgery) degree in General Surgery. This program typically lasts for 3 years.

After completing your General Surgery program, you have two options for specializing in Plastic Surgery:

DNB (Diplomate of National Board) in Plastic Surgery: This is a direct 6-year program after MBBS that combines general surgery training with plastic surgery specialization.

Fellowship in Plastic Surgery: This is a 1-2 year program following your MS/MD in General Surgery.

I hope it helps!
