The Class 10 Half-Yearly Exam Pattern 2026 is generally based on the Term-1 syllabus decided by the school and board. Most schools follow a similar structure where the first half of the syllabus from NCERT textbooks is included in the exam. Question papers usually contain a mix of multiple-choice questions, very short answers, short answers, long answers and case-based/application-based questions, so students are tested on both concepts and problem-solving skills.
For Hindi/English language subjects, the paper usually includes reading comprehension, grammar, writing skills and literature chapters covered till the mid-term. Maths and Science focus on numerical problems, diagrams and conceptual theory from the first few chapters. Social Science covers History, Geography, Civics and Economics chapters included in the Term-1 portion. Typically, written exams are conducted for 80 marks and the remaining 20 marks come from internal assessments such as notebook work, class tests, projects and classroom performance.
The half-yearly exam works as a preparation step for the final boards, so practicing NCERT questions, sample papers and school worksheets is the best strategy. Although the structure remains mostly similar, the exact chapter list and marking scheme may vary between schools, so checking your school’s official syllabus circular will give you the most precise details. All the best.
