If you have have just competed 10th or appear boards and seeking for option after it then you have mainly two options.Either you can go for diploma and then after diploma you can appear for JEE mains examination and if you can qualify mains, you will get chance to appear for JEE advance and if you can secure a good rank in advance then you will get into IITs.
Or,
You can simply pursue HSC further and do class 11th and 12th after which you can apply for JEE mains or any other exam you are interested in.So, basically you will have wide range of option of you will study +2 further by taking any stream(science,commerce,arts) and you will have very limited options after diploma  so choose wisely.

Completing diploma is basically equally to 12th so you can apply several entrance exam if you want to persue engineering course or any other course.
The Colleges will offer lateral entry for diploma candidates i.e. direct in 2nd year.
