There are alot of advantages of clearing gate and JRF.

There are lots of PSUs giving jobs through gate,many companies give upper hand to gate applicants.

Gate helps you to get admission in Mtech in top indian institutions.and it's a good knowledge check of what you've learnt in whole engineering.

JRF is for mphil and PhD.and you will get admission in top universities for PHD

If you cleared jrf exam you can work as a junior research fellow in projects . You will get a stipend of 31000 rupees per month.

If you applied for Ph.D program then for intial two years you will get a stipend of 31000 rupees permonth and after completion of two years you will be upgraded to SRF and stipend increased to 35000 rupees per month.

Beside this, those who clear jrf they are declared eligible for LS also.

Various PSU and companies take recruitment through gate exam if you clear gate exam you can apply to these jobs .

Also on clearing gate exam you get good amount of stipend per month for higher studies.
