These are some of the suggestions that you might find helpful. 

1. Look out for which area you want to concentrate on,as you know Mechatronics is something like Jack of All Trades.
2. Try to focus on learning any of the programming language.
3. Get yourself a Arduino Uno or Rasperry pie and start building small prototyopes.
4. If you want to get more hands on exerience on hardware stuff, build you own Arudino UNO.
5. Get hands on Solidworks or CATIA , which could help you alot in modelling.
6. Matlab will be your best friend.Check out tutorials and learn how to model basic control systems.
7. Seek oppurtunities in Startups where its pretty much easy to learn and get more experience working with projects..
8. if you want to go deep into various fields like Machine Vision, AI, Control Systems,PLC,Automation and so on.Univeristy education is the best option as you can find guidance and highly advanced labs.
9. Believe in yourself and keep pursing your dreams...Maybe it might take time to achieve your goals but if you are self-motivated you will definitely achive it.
