Maharashtra government has scrapped the 70% regional quota for medical seats.

The state was earlier divided into three regions- Marathwada, Vidarbha and Rest of Maharashtra (RoM). This means that 70% of the seats were only for the locals of this area.

Now as this reservation has been removed, this means that these seats are now open based only on the NEET merit, not locality. These seats are ought to be distrubuted among all other categories (including UR) as per the criteria decided by the state government. Seats are bound to increase.
