So, with regard to your query, NO you cannot change the category in the counselling process. Further, category is required for the purpose of allotting the seats to the candidates based upon their marks and rank. It is not possible once the application is filled and submitted.

However, even before the release of hall tickets you have the chance to change the category. For this you need to consult the authorities of NIFT, you can find their contact numbers and email addresses in the official website, where you filled the application form.
