If you take the JEE-Main exam and pass the JEE-Main qualifying cut-offs to qualify for JEE-Advance, you must then take the JEE-Advance exam. If you score well on the JEE-Advance exam, you can then apply for admission to several IITs based on your JEE-Advance rank. Given that IITs are India's most prestigious engineering institutes, there is no reason to attend NITs if you are going into IIT.

And yes you are eligible for Both IIT and NIT after JEE advance too.
