To be a software engineer, you must have cleared class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. You cannot choose commerce in 11th and 12th and then go for  software engineering as it is a predominantly science related field. You can also choose computer science as a subject in 11th and 12th for better understanding of the concepts. You will have to appear for entrance exams like JEE Mains, BITSAT, MET etc.
