User experience or user interface is a very hot topic today. Nowadays people like zoom apps over others because of the interface.  It is a very strong career today also of course today it is the early movers who are getting it but it is going to stay for sometime. Now, you can do computers also and become an engineer but what we are seeing is that a designer comes with a very different point of view and that point of view is valued very high. For example, engineering companies are coming for placement in design institutes. Designers are playing a very very important role nowadays. SO, if you want to play that role of working with the client and the team and creating that user experience then design is something that you should take.
