Hello,
It is very important to understand the concept of Degree of Freedom before you approach the question.
------- DOF or Degree of freedom in layman terms is basically no. Of ways in which a molecule can attain energy.
-------- So energy can be acquired by Translational motion, rotational motion and vibratory motion ( only at high temperatures).
-------- So, for a diatomic molecule and triatomic linear molecule like CO2 following DOF are associated with each form of motion:
• Translational motion - 3
• Rotational motion - 2
B.Tech/B.Arch Admissions OPEN
• Vibratory Motion - 2 (Only at High Temperature)
-------- Also energy associated with 1 DOF as per Maxwell's Law of equipartition of energy = 1/2KT ( K = Boltzmann Constant)
--------- Hence total Energy for CO2 molecule at normal temperature is 5/2KT.
I hope you find the answer helpful.
Thank you.

Question : Directions: 6 persons A, B, C, D, E, and F are sitting around a rectangular table (not necessarily in the same order) facing towards the centre. 4 persons are sitting at each corner, and one person is sitting at the middle of each shorter side of the table. B is an immediate neighbour of D and C. F is an immediate neighbour of A and D. E is an immediate neighbour of A and C. F is not sitting at any of the corners. Which of the following pairs represents the persons who are sitting exactly opposite to each other?
Option 1: CD
Option 2: FC
Option 3: AD
Option 4: BE
Question : A, B and C were partners in a firm sharing profits in a 3: 3: 2 ratio. They admitted D as a new partner for 4/7 profit. D acquired his share 2/7 from A, 1 / 7 from B and 1 / 7 from C. The new profit sharing ratio will be
Option 1: 5:13:6:32
Option 2: 5:13:6:4
Option 3: 3: 3: 2: 4
Option 4: None of the above
