Actually the question in itself is incomplete, both courses are equally good and it depends upon interest and skills of individual to explore it. You will get ECE in category 1 at Vellore till 8-9 k rank CSE at Chennai till 10k.

The placement opportunities doesn't depend on campus at all as there is joint placements for all the students at Vellore campus. The average package for CSE at VIT, Chennai is around 6.5 lacs in recent years while it is around 5.2 for ECE. Average package and placements are surely higher for CSE though it will be better for you choose one as per your capabilities and interest.

There is no major differences in academics , faculty and as I mentioned there is a joint placement for both the campuses.
