The National Institute of Virology located in Pune is one of the major Institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It was established at Pune, Maharashtra State in 1952 as Virus Research Centre (VRC) under the auspices of the ICMR and the Rockefeller Foundation (RF), USA.

The institute offers M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D courses such as M.Sc Virology, M.Phil and Ph.D in Basic Medical Sciences, Ph.D in Biochemistry, M.Phil in Biotechnology, etc.

Bachelor of Science courses are not offered by the Institute.
