We recommend you to start fundamental from second year engineering and by tgurd yesr mjdways you must compkete entire syllabus. 

By 7th semester you shoukd have appeared for 20+ mocj exams atleast so you are well prpeared for GaTe exam by Final semester.

Starting from fjrst year engineering is not advised as fundamental wont beclear and it may get difficult to grasp.
