For calculating the percentage and evaluation of selection criteria, 5 subjects will be considered. These are- Language (mainly English), Physics, Maths, one of the other technical subject such as Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or some other and one another subject (Computer or Hindi or Music or another vocational subject).

In case a student has written all 6 exams, the subject the student has scored the better marks in, will be considered.

I have passed 12 this year and except PCM and English I have CS and yoga , so for 75 criteria can I add yoga in place of CS as 5th sub as it has higher marks . Keeping mind of the 2023 situation

Hello D Biswas,

Till 2016, the result of JEE Mains had an inclusion of class 12th board marks with 40% weightage while the test itself had 60% weightage. The normal boards percentage was converted into percentile and then added with the test scores giving rise to a final score out of which the all India rank was composed.

But after 2016, there was a meeting of HRD ministry where it was finalised that the weightage of board exams in the overall rank calculation will be eliminated. This was because many students who scored good marks in Mains exam ended up getting a lower all India rank because of the board marks. Moreover, the state boards declared their result very late which ultimately extended the JEE Mains result as well creating a feeling of chaos and havoc among students and college authorities.

From 2017 the criteria for JEE Mains qualification have changed. A student gets his all India rank entirely on the basis of his JEE Mains score. But to qualify JEE Mains, a student has to secure a minimum of 75% in his board exams or rather be in the top 20 percentile in their respective boards.

The 75% calculation in board exams will be based on a total of 5 subjects comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English and any other optional subject. If you have taken 6 subjects, then the best among the optional subjects will be considered. Suppose if you have Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English, Computer Science and Physical Education then the best among Computer Science and Physical Education will be considered while the other 4 subjects will be compulsory subjects.

I hope I have answered your question. For any other query feel free to contact.

Thank You,

Have a good day!
