         First of all congratulations to your son for scoring this rank. Though he have scored good rank but he can't get admission in VNIT , Nagpur as a closing rank for VNIT was below 10k last year. For core branches like Computer science and engineering, Mechanical engineering the cut off and closing rank of every college is quite high.
He should try for Government funded institutions in Maharashtra state for admission. Try checking previous cut off and closing ranks for various colleges and universities of Maharashtra.

Can try for MIT,Pune with this score in other branches except for CSE and mechanical.
