It depends on your interest and commitment for particular branch. However I’like to give you the glimpse of environment at IIIT and you compare on your own.

If you are looking for CSE, ECE or ME branch then IIIT Jabalpur will be better option as the institute is relatively new the exposure to the personal interaction, It is also the institute recognized as Institute of National Importance, timely Scholarships, better environment and the unique curriculum of 8 months for 2 semester & 3+1 month vacation between semesters give you ample opportunity to take on projects, do research works, get internships etc. Here you’ll get students from all over India wherein you can get the best competitive environment and chances to explore the life outside UP.
Also it offers a unique program GENESYS for tour to Japan as a part of INDO Japanese exchange program, <only top 6 students of each branch are select on merit basis>, 2 students in ME & CSE get a chance to work in Japan with Canon and MHI (again merit & interview basis) as a part of internship program.

Both The colleges are very reputed and very similar in many ways.

The average package for Hbtu is around 6-7 lakhs per annum whereas for iiit Jabalpur the average package is around 7-8 lakhs per annum.

The placements for both th college is around 80 percent .

But For mechanical branch hbtu would be better as the faculty of mechanical branch is really very good .
