It's a misconception that you need to be in top 2.5 lakh rank to be eligible for jee advanced   rather JEE main qualifying cut off for different categories   is such that only a total of around 2,50,000  students become eligible to appear for JEE Advanced  examination.

For example,

Jee main 2020 qualifying cut off to be eligible for jee advanced for st category was 39.0696101 percentile which is around common rank of 6-7 lakh . jee advanced eligibility criteria is given below :-

-----------) you need to pass your class 12th with at least 75% marks in aggregate in class 12 if belong to general or obc category or at least 65% marks if belongs to SC/ST or must be in the top 20 percentile in class 12 examination.
