I have personally soent 3 years studying in the Science department of St Xaviers College, Kolkata. The faculty is qualfied and can impart great knowledge but you need to take the initiative and contact the professors individually for guidance. Generally, only notes and attending lectures wont allow you to score enough. Also, the marking scheme is quite tight.  The infrastructure is pretty good with decent labs and equipment. However, the placements dont really happen for the science department, maximum 5 or 10 for chemistry. Placements mainly take place for the commerce department. Hope this helps.
