According to AICTE the total number of seats are on decline every year
In 2015-16 it was almost 1500000 seats in engineering
But with average decline of 75000 seats per annum the seats this year are confined to around 1200000 which will further decline in coming times because AICTE has decided by 2022 almost 50% of colleges will have to take accreditation by NBA which is at 10%  currently
But the seats in IITs and NITs have not decrease as they have maintained their elite level of education
