I am assuming that the question refers to seats that are filled through JEE and not other exams like GATE. So this includes B.Tech., Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.Tech.), B.Arch., etc. Including all the new IITs, the total number of seats made available is 10,632 for the session 2016–17. The category-wise distribution is as follows:

Open, i.e. General: 5263

OBC: 2658

SC: 1595

ST: 797

PwD (again split into Open, OBC, SC and ST): 319
