He is currently Distinguished Professor at Shiv Nadar University and director, Centre for Public Affairs and Critical Theory. He was formerly Professor in the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. For a brief period from 1993–1994, he was also associated with the Delhi School of Economics as Professor in the Department of Sociology.
