VIT has its own exam VITEEE, they have the monopoly of not disclosing the marks scored by students and hence, this is a mystery for every batch how they made it to VIT.

Results are declared in ranks, and ranks are surely calculated based on your score. So if you attempt VITEEE seriously, there is a possibility to end up in merit (Under 5000) rank and also get a seat in CSE/IT in Vellore campus under category 1.

Anyhow, whatever rank you score, there is a possibility to get CSE/IT in VIT in other categories (categories are decided based on your rank. say you get rank 1–20k you are in cat1, while if you get rank 20k-40k you are in cat2 - the fees are higher as the category number increases)
