Well, it is not a straight forward answer. You need to work right from the 1st year of your engineering.

You have to make sure that you are perfect in basics like engineering maths , aptitude,os,DBMS,Data structure, c , oops..

Next step you have to enter machine learning and artificial intelligence . If you learn AI or ML ultimately you will be getting a package of 20L in top NITs or IITs . Else you will get placed of 15L initially and you will get incriminats.
